JBL engineers designed the Control One bookshelf loudspeaker to deliver enhanced, room-filling sound from a compatible AVR (audio/video receiver) or 25- to 200-watt power amplifier.

Two-way speaker configuration

They’re low profile at just 9 inches (229 millimeters) high, 6 inches (156 millimeters) wide and 5-1/2 inches (140 millimeters) deep, but the JBL Control One’s two-way speaker design and quality cones reproduce a wide range of frequencies for realistic, room-filling, can’t-believe-your-ears imaging.

4" (100mm) woofer and 1/2" (12mm) titanium-laminate tweeter

When the JBL name is on a speaker such as a Control One, you know you’re getting big, room-rocking bass straight from the professional recording studio. Titanium technology in JBL tweeters is another studio idea. Titanium’s strength and light weight make it perfect for quickly and accurately reproducing crystal-clear high frequencies without strain or distortion, even when the volume is cranked up.

Sure, they’re personal-size, but each Control One AW speaker offers a peak power-handling capacity of 200 watts. That much power ensures distortion-free reproduction of your favorite music.

Rated 5 out of 5 by sgtrob from Great little speakers Purchased to use with a old pioneer Sx-780 Reciever and a cassette deck/turntable to have a small "vintage " system. I love the control one speaker system as they are very small in size but very large in sound. Nice sound for the average person especially for backgroung music in the late night hours. Bass response is very good for this size speaker and completely adaquate for most people. Clean and can get plenty loud these sound very good you will not be disappointed unless you expect 12 in. woofer bass from a 4 in. speaker. Great speaker...great price buy them now you deserve good sound.

I was looking for an upgrade for my 1990's Pioneer Stack System,although the standard speakers were great, they were on the Large size and very Bulky. I decided to do some research and came across these speakers, Wow!! Even though they are a 1/3rd of the size and weight they pack a punch! I was listening to some vinyl with them and they certainly hold on their own, the bass is far superior than i expected from such a small speaker. The added bonus were the brackets that come with the speakers, very easy to install and look great in any environment. Certainly a thumbs up from me!

For the average Jo, it's doubtful you could want more from a little speaker. Clarity is amazing and bass is unbelievable from a tiny cabinet like this! Even thought the diaphragms are disintegrating, they still sound superb. Trying to decide on whether to replace the diaphragm or buy new C1's!

Hi, The online nominal impedance specification for the current JBL control one speaker is 8 ohm, the supplied manual states 4 ohm, which is correct please?

Jbl Control One's impedance is 8 ohms as stated in the manual and specs sheet that you can download from this site. The 4 omh info on the printed manual is wrong.

No. The CONTROL ONE speakers are passive wall-mountable book-shelf speakers that require an amplifier or receiver in order to function.

I have a Sony STR-DE445 Receiver and an old JBL SUB125a from an old surround sound system. Will I be able to use these components with these speakers and how would I wire this so I can hear the TV and listen to music from the receiver?

Yes, the SONY STR-DE445 is driving 80 watts with 8 ohms per channel which can be handled by the CONTROL ONE. For the SUB125A, you just need to run a cable from the AVR’s sub output to the subwoofer’s line level input(s).

Hi. Control One is a normal, passive loudspeaker, and needs to be connected to an amplifier with normal speaker leads. No AUX connection is possible.

One of my beloved Control !X stopped working , i.e., no sound at all. They produce amazing sound and before I replace them, I would like to be sure it's not something simple that I can repair. But how does a guy get inside?

How well would these speakers work on a yacht? I’m looking for a small pair of wall mounted speakers to replace the car stereo speakers that were already in the saloon (not outdoors)

Hi Anika, The JBL Control One speakers are passive speakers, and can be connected to any amplifier. To be sure that these can be connected to the audio system you have on your yacht, I would advise to download the Owner's Manual from our website, and consult the manufacturer of the audio system you have on board, to make sure everything is compatible.

Can I connect qty 8 of these speakers to a Rotel RA-810A amplifier? I have an area 6m x 6m where we want 6 speakers around a dance floor and then a further 2 speakers in a different area working off a switch. If not, what is the minimum amp size?

Hi Stevie271. I have checked the Rotel amplifier, and it is a very weak model, 2x20W, weighing only 6kg, and specified to drive no lower than 8 Ohms. It is not able to drive 8 loudspeakers, except at very, very low volume, and then only if the speakers are connected in a combination of series and parallel to get to 8 Ohms or higher load. It may also be possible to use a separate speaker switch that features ballast resistors to ensure a constant load of 8 Ohms, but we do not sell such items. The correct way of doing what you want, is to buy a multi-channel amplifier, for instance an 8-channel power amplifier. You can find this kind of product on Amazon. That way, you will drive each speaker with its own, dedicated power amplifier, which is the right solution.
